TROY, MI – The Troy Historic Village will be hosting a Business Open House from 11am-2pm on Thursday, March 2, 2023. Your business team is invited to the recently restored Niles-Barnard House Gathering & Event Venue for hors d’oeuvres and an inside look into this unique rental facility.
The fully renovated house
is ready to host your next business meeting, team meeting, or idea
session. Hold a unique breakfast, luncheon, evening gathering, or special
company event. Business to casual seating and table arrangements are possible utilizing
classroom tables, rounds, and high-tops. The Niles-Barnard House features a
large meeting room, plus, two break-out rooms, dimmable lighting, an 83” LED screen, and Bluetooth speakers. The kitchen includes a commercial icemaker and refrigerator, warming oven and compartment sinks for your convenience. Your team can bring in your own food and beverages or a caterer of your choice. In addition, the house is fully heated, air-conditioned, contains a fresh air exchange system, and has two modern and accessible bathrooms.
The 1837 house was originally located at Square Lake and Livernois Road and built by Johnson Niles—an early Troy Township pioneer. Later purchased by Norman Barnard, it was donated to the city by his wife Harriet in the mid-2000s, moved to the Village in 2010, and finally restored in 2021. Norman and Harriet were both members of the Troy Historical Society and passionate about preserving the objects and buildings that tell the stories of our past.
The Niles-Barnard House is directly tied to the history of the city. Johnson Niles was a farmer, businessman, and early developer who encouraged businesses and families to move into the area. He used his home as a gathering space to build the community. More than 100 years later in 1955, the plans to turn the township into a city were developed around the Barnard family’s dining room table.
Since opening, the
Niles-Barnard House has hosted numerous events from financial firm meetings to
birthday parties, retirement celebrations, and family gatherings. It has also
been available for memorial remembrances. The building comfortably combines the
modern with the historic for a memorable event experience.
An additional feature—your own Village experience! Beyond the walls of the Niles-Barnard House lies a serene five-acre site. Nine historic buildings including a One-Room School House and Log Cabin surround the Village Green and Gazebo. You will decompress as you stroll through history and beautifully landscaped grounds. Rental packages can include access to the Village and buildings, group tours, and even history talks.
