Oakland University Now Offers English as Second Language through the ESL Institute
ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE AT OAKLAND UNIVERSITY'S ESL INSTITUTE
The ESL Institute at Oakland University offers a unique world of options to strengthen English as a second language skills to pursue a degree or advance in your career!
AS A PREMIER ENGLISH LANGUAGE PREPARATION PROGRAM, WE OFFER:
- Intermediate and Advanced ESL Courses focusing on reading, writing, conversation and presentation skills for academic and business purposes
- Short, intensive year-round terms (Appx 7 weeks). Students can take one, two or three classes per term.
- Small in-person class sizes held on campus.
- Fall and Winter - Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m., with asynchronous days on Monday and Wednesday.
- Placement into the appropriate course level based on test scores from the OU ESL Online Placement test or a TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo, or PTE Academic test result.
- A stimulating campus setting where students will have access to many campus resources.
- The option to continue on for an academic degree if desired
- A convenient location in the heart of Oakland County
- $900 per course
All instructors are TESL certified (Teaching English as a Second Language) and our courses are accredited by English USA, the American Association of Intensive English Programs.

Upcoming semesters are as follows:
- Fall I Sept 4, 2024-October 18, 2024
- Fall II October 21, 2024-December 13, 2024
- Winter I January 6, 2025-February 22, 2025
- Winter II March 3, 2025-April 26, 2025
The ESL Institute also runs customized short-term American Culture and English programs for international groups.
