From noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 6-7, the Detroit Zoo is going green for GreenFest, presented by DTE, an annual celebration that teaches community members how to live sustainably through fun activities and educational displays.
Due to popular demand, this year’s event is being extended into a two-day festival filled with live music and activities sure to inspire all.
During this weekend extravaganza, guests can expect:
• An eclectic music lineup
• A sustainable marketplace shopping experience
• Complimentary yoga sessions
• Green food trucks
• Eco-friendly activities
• Education stations
• Hands-on “green journey” activities
• And much more
This year’s theme is “Embrace Your Green Journey,” which aims to connect individuals with the resources they need to live more sustainably no matter where they are on their green journey — from beginners to seasoned environmentalists.
“We want to meet people where they are and show them what is possible through sustainable practices,” said Andy McDowell, sustainability manager for the Detroit Zoological Society. “By embracing your green journey, you can make a difference for our planet and the people and animals who share it.”
Whether skeptical of green initiatives or avid supporters, guests are sure to leave GreenFest equipped with tools to live greener and care for the planet.
GreenFest is free with Zoo admission and free for members. For more information, visit detroitzoo.org/events.
This event is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and Pure Oakland Water.
