On Wednesday, Sept. 28, the Detroit Zoo hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renamed Consumers Energy Events Pavilion on its Royal Oak campus. A hub of activity at the Zoo, the pavilion is one of the nonprofit’s most sought-after venues for weddings, corporate outings, family gatherings and more.

“Consumers Energy is one of the Zoo’s most loyal and generous supporters,” said Dr. Hayley Murphy, executive director and CEO of the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS). “We are thrilled to celebrate and recognize their most recent contribution with the naming of the Consumers Energy Events Pavilion.”

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest energy provider, has a long-standing relationship with the DZS. Not only have the company and its foundation been key partners in presenting DZS events such as Dinosauria and Sunset at the Zoo, but they also have made major contributions to some of the Zoo’s most popular attractions, including the Polk Penguin Conservation Center and the Arctic Ring of Life.

DZS and Consumers Energy leaders are excited to continue their partnership with the naming of the Consumers Energy Events Pavilion. Both organizations view the pavilion as the first step toward furthering their shared goals of environmental sustainability and community betterment and showcasing their commitment to the planet and the people and animals who share it.

“We’re excited to put our name to the Consumers Energy Events Pavilion. Our hometown service commitment throughout Michigan is to create opportunities for community members to connect, grow, thrive and have fun,” said Roger Curtis, Consumers Energy’s vice president of public affairs. “This pavilion is part of our effort to help the Detroit Zoo — one of Michigan’s crown jewels — shine even more brightly.”

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
